Visitors to the United States from foreign countries may be required to have a visa to enter the U.S. Citizens of countries in the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) may not need a visa, but must have a machine-readable passport that is valid at least 6 months beyond your visit. In addition, citizens of countries that participate in the Visa Waiver Program will need to register through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) prior to departing for the United States. This new system will begin in August and will be mandatory for all VWP travelers beginning January 12, 2009. All citizens of VWP countries will be required to register through this online system before departing and it is recommended that travelers register at least 72 hours in advance.
Conference participants who need a visa are encouraged to apply as early as possible and at least 90 days before the conference to allow adequate time for processing. While the conference organizers cannot directly assist participants in the process of obtaining a visa, invitation letters will be issued to registered participants upon request.
